Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you, God, for everything
As I was watching home videos recently, I was reminded of that song. All of it is true, you know. I have a teensy little problem with the first line, though. Yes, the world is sweet, and we should thank God for the planet he's made for us. But, the people in the world aren't so sweet. As a Christian, I need to resist the temptation to join these sweet-looking people in their not-so-sweet activities. This is made clear in 1 John 2:15-17, which says:
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world––the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions––is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
At the same time, though, I can tell the people of the world about God, the one who gives us the food we eat and who made the birds that sing!
That is my revelation from this little song.
Thanks for reading!
